No. PID/Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is mostly caused by two bacteria: Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea, but 30-40% of PID have multiple bacteria present, which can infect the uterus, fallopian tubes & ovaries. It can lead to infertility. Herpes infects the mucous membranes and is not a cause of PID (but it can infect the cervix). See http://www.cdc.gov/std/PID/STDFact-PID.htm.
Indirectly yes & no. It is well-established that if you have active herpes lesions, or herpetic cervicitis (inflammation of cervix) those are invitations/open doors for secondary bacterial infections that statistically tend to show up with HSV co-infections. One study also demonstrated that HSV-2 was independently associated with endometritis. Safe sex continues to be a must since folks shed virus w/no signs of infx.
