What kind of surgery is done for a pneumatacele in a premature infant?

Pneumatocele. Usually a small chest tube or catheter is place in the area to remove the air slowly. I have also seen selective ventilation done for the pneumatocele to slowly resolve. Generally, it is a surgical procedure, not surgery.
Sometimes nothing. Without seeing the x-ray-it is difficult to give a complete answer. Be advised that sometimes-depending on the size & location nothing but time may resolve the issue. If it is not interfering with ventilation and not too small, it may dissipate in time. Patience helps if nothing life-threatening is indicated.
