In brief: Many options.
There are many prescription options for acne - too many to summarize here in 400 characters.
A dermatologist will evaluate you and determine which ones will work best in your particular situation. That's why they require a prescription - because a professional has to prescribe them for you.

In brief: SEVERAL oral meds
The hormone, testosterone, contributes to acne.
Skin bacteria and overproduction of oil (sebum) also are associated. Oral antibiotics can control bacteria and oral Accutane can be prescibed by a dermatolgist. Recent studies indicate that certain dietary factors, including carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips (w/ increased blood sugar) may contribute to acne, as well.
