What is liposuction?

Direct Fat Removal. Liposuction, as the name says, is the removal of fat with a vacuum. Small incisions are made, and a canula (hollow tube) is inserted under the skin, into the fat. A hole, or holes, near the end of the tube remove fat by sucking it out. A balanced salt solution with local anesthesia and epinephrine is injected prior to surgery to reduce discomfort and bruising. Consult a board certified specialist.
Liposuction. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion. Liposuction techniques may be used to reduce fat deposits in the thighs, hips, buttocks, upper arms, abdomen, waist, back, inner knee, chest area, cheeks, chin, neck, calves, and ankles.

What do liposuction clinics do with the fat they remove?

Fat from liposuction. The fat removed from liposuction is usually discarded as biologic waste. On occasion, the fat is used as a graft for other areas of the body requiring augmentation (enlargement). Recently, new studies have used liposuction fat to harvest stem cells. However, the vast majority of fat is discarded. Read more...

What is slim liposuction?

Fat removal by laser. Lasers can be used to "melt" fat. The technique is to insert a small laser under the skin of the abdomen which then is directed at surrounding fat tissue. The fat cells and other tissues are destroyed. The fat liquefies, which can be sucked out, and scar tissue forms that pulls in on the skin. Slim lipo is one of a variety of lasers available, each using slightly different wavelengths. Read more...
Another form of lipo. Traditional liposuction uses a cannula to physically break up some of the fatty tissue and then suck it out. Newer technologies have been developed including laser assisted (slim lipo and smart lipo) and ultrasound assisted (vaser). Besides breaking down the fat cells, these modalities also have a thermal effect on the skin which may cause some tightening of the skin as an added benefit. Read more...
Slim Lipo. Is a state-of-the-art diode laser which is delivered to the subcutaneous fat with tiny fiberoptics via small punctures which facilitates liposuction ( done right afterwards), causes impressive skin tightening, and decreases postop swelling. What is laser liposuction?

Laser Assisted LPS. Uses certain laser frequencies to help liquify and heat the fat and subskin areas (theoretically to tighten the skin). Results are not significantly different that with syringe or low pressure machine lps. Major marketing claims better results, but clinical experience suggests that laser and ultrasound uses are not of great advantage, and usually cost more. Many use both. Read more...
Good. All liposuction involves suctioning fat from the body using long cannulas through small incisions. By adding a laser first, we are able to break fibrous tissue, stop bleeding, and heat the skin so it will contract. Read more...

One of many methods. To try to "emulsify" fat before suctioning to allow greater fat removal and (perhaps) more skin contraction. It is one of a number of methods added to conventional liposuction to achieve this goal. Others are ultrasound and water under pressure. Another tool. Much more important than the hammer and chisel used is the sculptor you choose. Any idiot with the tools above can put marble chips on the floor, but there are very few michaelangelos out there! nothing wrong with laser lipo, but it does not turn poor surgeons into experts! and if it truly "tightened" skin or "sealed vessels" then excessive scar tissue, rippling, and fibrosis may result. Laser Lipo? Laser liposuction is a popular "add on" for liposuction to melt the fat before it is suctioned from the body. It sounds very high tech, but as it turns out it does not help much in the outcome except in very specialized circumstances. It does raise the price for the surgery though as the equipment is more expensive than in standard liposuction. http://www.cosmeticsurgerytruth.com/blog/?p=6177. Read more...
Effeective. Laser assisted liposuction alows you to undergo removal of unwanted fat, while awake using a local anesthetic. The laser such as cool lipo will melt the fat while the liposuction cannula will remove the fat and then the laser will tighten the skin. Lipo with Lasers. Laser liposuction is liposuction with the additional step of shining a laser under the skin before aspirating. This adds time and danger (heat) the the procedure without any demostrated benefit. Fat is pretty soft, so lasers, ultrasound, r-f is not necessary. It also does not seem to signifantly tighten the skin when compared to tumescent liposuction. See article: http://bit.Ly/i20fxf . Read more...
Laser liposuction. Laser liposuction uses laser energy to melt or liquefy fat prior to removing the fat with liposuction. Most patients find laser liposuction to be less painful with quicker recovery since the fat is melted first making it easier to remove. What is tumescent liposuction for?

Tumescent=swollen. Tumescent literally means swollen or engorged. It describes a method of preparing for liposuction and by itself does not remove any fat. It's intended purpose is to add large volumes of fluid ( physicians use different formulas) to achieve some degree of anesthesia as well as to facilitate the extraction of fat by limiting blood loss or improving the conduction of energy such as ultrasound. Provide vehicle . Tumescent means 'to fill'. Placement of fluid into the fat tissues creates a suspension fluid to "float" the fat out with less trauma.
