In brief: Septic knee
Best treatment for an infected knee joint is arthroscopic clean-out.
Cultures of the joint fluid used to id the specific bacteria, which guides antibiotic treatment. Intravenous antibiotics needed for usually 6 weeks. If patient medically too sick for anesthesia, may treat with serial aspirations and antibiotics too.
