In brief: Constipation

has your child been on laxatives since the age of 2 seems a very long time laxative use causes a lot of water minerals and if your child does not rehydrate it only makes the problem worse.
Please have your primary care to have a team of professionals that include a psychologist psychiatrist or counselor and a dietician support from family and friends will greatly aid in successful outcome

In brief: Constipation

This is such a terrible problem! Your specialist is right in that this is a behavioral disorder in children.
They have a painful stool at some point, then they decide they'll never go again! The with holding behavior compounds the problem. Your goal is to get a daily soft stool. Increase veggies, fruits and water intake. I like mineral oil as a stool softener, one tbsp twice daily.
