Sports Medicine

In brief: EMG/NCS

Electromyography combined with a nerve conduction study is the standard of care test for a brachial plexus injury.
However, the test may not abnormal unless the injury occurred 2-3 weeks or more prior to the test. An MRI can detect more severe brachial plexus injuries. Of course, no test is a substitute for a good history and physical exam.
