In brief: Needle biopsy

Fibroadenomas have a very classic appearance on mammogram and ultrasound, but this can sometime be misleading.
The most definitive test is needle biopsy under x-ray or ultrasound guidance. However, if it has been seen for years on mammography and is unchanged, ongoing observation is a reasonable option.
