In brief: Nl variation

Over time, and as menopause approaches, cycle irregularity becomes more frequent.
But the most common cause before pre-menopause can be rapid weight gain or loss, stress, environmental change, side affect of new med or temporary med like antibiotic or steroid injection, and just a fluke singular monthly variance.

In brief: Early period

You may be peri-menopausal which can lead to irregularity in period.
it may be irregularity from period, which happens, but since you are 41 would have some concern for ovarian /uterine pathology fibroids or tumors so call gyn and discuss.
