Kernicterus tests. Kernicterus is a devastating chronic disabling condition characterized by the clinical tetrad of choreoathetoid cerebral palsy, central neural hearing loss, palsy of the vertical gaze, and tooth enamel hypoplasia as the result of bilirubin-induced cell toxicity.
KERNICTERUS. Once hyperbilirubin is detected, efforts should be done to lower it. There's no test to determine the risk of kernicterus and no treatment once it develops.
