What are the tests for hypercholesterolemia?

Lipid or Lipoprotein. Cholesterol is carried in blood by lipoprotein particles. Hypercholesterolemia patients have abnormal levels of lipoprotein particles. Lipid panels estimate particles by measuring the lipid (cholesterol or triglyceride) in various lipoproteins. Because the lipid per particle is highly variable, the lipid panel is often a poor measure of lipoproteins. Lipoprotein particle number is more accurate.
