If there is clinical suspicion of heart disease, an echocardiogram will be performed.
In most cases that is all that in needed to make or confirm the diagnosis of tetralogy of fallot. A catheterization is rarely needed in uncomplicated cases, and surgery can be scheduled in the first few months of life.
