In brief: See a podiatrist

Your podiatrist will get a detailed history and ask many questions about what the pain feels like.
Then your podiatrist will examine your feet and do several tests including: testing for the presence of a mulder's click, palpating the area between the metatarsals, squeezing the foot, evaluating whether the toes are spreading apart, evaluating for diminished sensation of the affected toes etc.
