In brief: History, exam, MRI

In many cases, your history will show the symptoms of myelopathy (e.
g., hand clumsiness, numbness, weakness). A careful exam may show signs of spinal cord problems. In most folks MRI will be the test to confirm the diagnosis (if you cannot have an mri, a ct with dye in the spinal fluid can give similar information to mri).

I agree but add that the neurological examination and symptoms can be as specific and sensitive as radiographic imaging when performed by a sensitive, expert professional!
