If one is hyperthyroid, there are two ways to test for graves' disease: 1) testing for a special type of antibody that is only found in graves' disease: this is a blood test.
2) doing a thyroid uptake and scan: this involves taking a tiny amount of radioactive iodine and then analyze how your thyroid handles it. They are both excellent tests, but the scan provides additional info.
