Perhaps a little .. You have probably heard of statins which are effective medicines to lower cholesterol. Curiously, red yeast contains some statins. As such, the FDA considers red yeast products that contain statins to be illegal unapproved drugs. Their manufacture is not regulated regarding safety and purity.
