Is it possible to potty train a child before the age of one?

In brief: Remember

Potty traing really means that the child never wet or soils themselves.
This requires maturity of the nervous system, feeling the urge, being able to control it and wanting to avoid being wet. ! year olds do not have the tools to do this. Aiming the child and catching the urine in the potty is not "potty training".

In brief: No

As stated by dr nuessle, they don't have the maturity in their nervous system to potty train.
I think i recall a study of late 60's british military inducties that showed 10% bowel or bladder problems compaired to 1-2% in americans of the same era.The primary difference was a push amoung british mothers to potty train before 2 while americans let things happen when ready.

In brief: No

Infants of this age do not have the developmental milestones to accomplish potty training.
If you are "potty training" a child of this age, then you are training yourself and not the child. You are responding to the child's cues. This type of training can have a negative psychological impact on the infant as they get older.
