Is there anything I can try to keep my back from grinding until my spinal fusion? Also what about cramps?

Do not ride in the car for long distance, avoid high impact exercise like running/biking. Try stationary bike/elliptical instead. Sitting for long times also hurts. Gentle stretching helps.
