In brief: Yes

Many things can cause false positive or false negative test for narcolepsy.
First, testing should be done off medications as this is sure way to have false negative test. Testing is night test followed next day by another nap test. False positives can be found if there is untreated other primary sleep disorder including chronic sleep restriction, sleep apnea orplmd. Depression can be false+.

In brief: Probably not

Narcolepsy is a chronic medical condition which leads to excessive daytime sleepiness in addition to other problems.
In diagnosing narcolepsy, the sleep study measures how quickly you fall asleep and how quickly you enter into rem (dreaming) sleep. It is a fairly accurate test.
