If you bled a lot in pregnancy should you have test for von willebrand?

In brief: Another reason?

Von willebrand's that isn't already obvious usually doesn't cause excessive bleeding during pregnancy.
If there's been other episodes of excessive bleeding (any tooth extractions?), it could be worth checking. Most vw's is trivial and requires no treatment.

In brief: Not necessarily

Bleeding during pregnancy and childbirth can happen for lots of reasons.
Your obstetrition would have the best sense of whether the bleeding that occurred would be normal for what took place or if another explanation should be considered.

In brief: Not necessarily

Typically by the time a person with VWD has children, they will have encountered a few potential bleeding situations.
Common bleeding situations include monthly periods, tonsillectomy, wisdom tooth extraction and others. If these have not been an issue, it is unlikely that VWD is the cause for a difficult bleeding episode during childbirth.
