In brief: Poss. nerve injury

I see a few patients a month with persistent pain after IV placement.
This can be due to a hematoma formation or nerve injury. Recommended treatment is warm compress for the hematoma and contrast compress (hot and cold) for nerve injury. Prescription topical creams and therapy may be helpful. Symptoms usually resolve spontaneously, but tis can take u to a year. See a hand surgeon for an eval.
