In brief: Median nerve release
Carpal tunnel surgery can be done endoscopically (through a camera inserted in a small incision) or open (standard surgery exposing the internal anatomy).
Basically, it is a median nerve release but cutting the carpal ligament which holds down the nerve. The median nerve is one of the 3 major nerves running through the wrist. When this nerve is compressed, it causes carpal tunnel syndrome.
