In brief: Epilepsy treatment

If that is the medication regimen that works to keep his seizures under control then it is appropriate.
If you still have questions i would recommend you get a second opinion from another neurologist.

In brief: Not if needed

Epilepsy can be very complicated to treat, and it is not so unusual to use several medications together to prevent seizures.
Sometimes it is actually safer & better tolerated to use low-medium doses of several meds rather than very high doses of one alone. If you have concerns, or your husband is having troubling side effects, make an appt w/ neurologist to discuss best treatment options.
