5 weeks pregnant. Had been taking 4,000-5,000 IU vitamin D3 daily. I read that high doses can cause birth defects in first trimester. Should I worry?

In brief: Vitamin D

Most women do not need that much vitamin D on a daily basis but if your obstetrician has uncovered very low levels follow that advice.
Otherwise go to a store and purchase bottles of either 1000 or 2000 units. Usually you do not need an expensive vitamin D test.
