In brief: No, but related

They are related but different.
There are several human herpes viruses. All cause an initial infection, then lie dormant and may recur later. Herpes simplex viruses (HSV) types 1 and 2 cause oral and genital herpes. Chickenpox and shingles (herpes zoster) are caused by the same herpes virus, named varicella zoster virus (VZV), different than HSV. Shingles is a localized recurrence of chickenpox.
