I used to use ventolin inhaler and they changed it to bricanyl (terbutaline). Is this similar and ok?

In brief: Yes similar

Yes both are bronchodilators known as beta 2 receptor agonists.
Both ventolin and bricanyl (terbutaline) work on the smooth muscle receptors of the bronchial tube to cause the muscles to relax opening the airways. Both are fast acting but wear off in a matter of 6 hours. Check on step-wise asthma treatment as additional medications may be helpful such as inhaled steroids.
