Schizophrenia is caused at least in part by loss of certain brain cells.
Even before medications were introduced, an abnormal walk was sometimes described. The medications may produce extrapyramidal reactions that cause the distinctive "shuffle". It is one more thing that makes the disease difficult for patient and caregiver.
