the temporo mandibular joint is located just in front of the ear and the condyle sits on the same bone, the muscles of the neck do attach to the base of the head and around the joints, these muscle move the mandible around.
Any disease that affect the joints can affect the muscles of the head and the neck and visa versa. The same goes for the ears.
