In brief: Pandemic cold sores?
Herpes simplex virus-1 commonly causes "cold sores" around the mouth.
When i think about all of the diseases that we might worry about reaching truly pandemic status, this doesn't really top my list. Indeed, it may well already qualify but, as dr. Kwok point out, life will indeed go on.

In brief: We're in it together
As seen from outer space, earth is an awesome little planet, teeming with tiny life forms (trees, people, dolphins, sponges, viruses, etc.
, etc...). We coexist, changing over time, adapting to one another. Our dna, and that of other species, already has genes from viruses, acquired over thousands of years. If we find a vaccine for hsv, then great! if that never happens, life will still be fine.
