In brief: No.

Hiatal hernias only worsen over time.
While medications help control symptoms, only surgery can cure a hiatal hernia. Neither stress nor eating cause hernias.

In brief: Hiatal hernia

Hiatal hernia is due to minor abnormality in organ development resulting in a poorly functioning sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus; sometimes a part of the stomach even slides up into the chest.
These do not resolve without surgery. Spicy foods and overeating will make symptoms worse, as well as alcohol and caffeine.
