In brief: Tissue trauma

Any operation causes tissue trauma, from the skin incision, to the dissection and management of the operative field, to the placement of foreign material such as suture and mesh.
While it is all safe on the whole, pain is a normal part of the recovery period. There is however a risk of chronic pain, usually mild, and rarely severe. Hope this helps!
