If the brown discharge is old menstrual blood why do I have it 5-6 days after my period ended and not right after?

In brief: The blood pools

Because the blood is a small amount and pools in the posterior vagina.
It looses it's oxygen content and becomes brown/black and drains from the vagina slowly. It should last 1 or 2 days. If it persist or has an odor then you should see your doctor because there may be an infection.
