Had cataract surgery lazer twice 2injections in eyeball op to remove elshnig pearls from behind artificial lense but still suffer from pain behind eye?

Pain after CS. Pain after Cataract Surgery can be due to: post operative inflammation, healing of corneal wounds (all which is normal). Infection & prolonged pain after cataract surgery needs to be addressed asap. Elschnig pearls should not cause pain. Many eyeMDs would think of Propionibacterium acnes infection if persistent inflammation, pain & posterior capsular haze. see [email protected] for more info.

Is it typical to have a refraction done before laser surgery following cataract surgery. I had a routine eye exam with refraction 3 months ago.

Routine Pre-Op exam. As with cataract surgery, the same goes for laser treatment that vision must be compromised both subjectively and objectively to be a suitable candidate as well as approved treatment covered by insurance. To justify necessity for treatment, it is important to refract prior to check visual acuity, and also thereafter to verify that the cause for visual disturbance has been accurately targeted. Typical to have a refraction before laser surgery on eye? Cataract surgery 5-6 years ago. Had refraction as part of routine eye exam 3 months ago.

Refraction . Is the part of an eye exam that determines what power of glasses you need to see better, remember that part where you are asked which lenses is best one or two. You can have a small refractive error/correction after cataract surgery and lasik. Read more...
Yes. Refraction can avoid unnecessary yag capsulotomy. Only when a refraction doesn't improve the vision assuming no other ocular pathology is yag laser capsulotomy indicated. It usually is the physician that doesn't first eliminate a refractive error as the cause of reduced visual acuity before performing yag capsulotomy is possibly doing unnecessary surgery. My mom-cataract surgery done on both eyes around 6-7 years back. Is being advised laser capsulotomy 4 left eye, does this cause retina thinning?

No. The new plastic lens she has is supported on the back capsule of her previous natural lens. Sometimes this capsule, which is living tissue, makes a layer of lens material termed capsular fibrosis. This is easily opened with some yag laser hits (laser capsulotomy) with energy focused on the capsule and not the retina so a risk to the retina is rare and probably only comes from pre-existing issues. Laser capsulotomy. Is a common procedure that may be needed weeks, months or years after cataract surgery. A laser is used to open the original lens capsule that is left in position to support the intraocular lens which is inserted at the time of the original surgery. This laser procedure is very safe and will not cause retinal thinning. Read more...

I had cataract surgery, 2 triansyimalone injections & an op to clear behind artificial lense had lid lifted in nov now eye keeps going cloudy?

Many reason. It sounds like you had cataract surgery, laser Yag capsulatomy, steroid injection and blepharoplasty. The steroid injection was done either to help with persistent inflammation or macular edema after cataract surgery. If you still have unresolved inflammation, macula edema, dry eyes or refractive error then the vision can be blurry. Pls consult your surgeon. Read more...
