the lower part of the esophagus has a sphincter that prevent the content of the stomach to go back up to it; when this sphincter does not work properly acid reflux occur. Greasy food, coffee, tomatoes, soft drinks, spicy food may cause acid reflux, the symptoms may include burning chest pain, cough specially at night, regurgitation etc.

In brief: Acid Refux

Better known as GERD, it is caused by acid from the stomach going up into the esophagus due to the valve at the top of the stomach not working well.
Symptoms include burning in the throat, heartburn, sour taste in the mouth, sour burps, the taste of acid in the mouth, a watery sensation in the mouth. Severe cases can cause narrowing of the esophagus leading to difficulty swallowing food.
