In brief: JNC 8 guidelines

The new guidelines recommend blood pressure below 140/90 if patient is younger than 60 years old, has diabetes, or has chronic kidney disease.
Definitely talk to your doctor about the optimal blood pressure management.

In brief: Hypertension

a systolic BP of less than 120 is normal.
This is the pressure the blood vessels see when the heart contracts. 120 to 139 is considered prehypertension and 140 or greater is hypertension. Normal diastolic blood pressure or the pressure when the heart rests is 80-89. At 90 of greater it is considered high. A BP of 140/90 or greater is considered hypertension and should at your age be treated.
