In brief: Mammo
A low dose xray of the breasts.
The tech will place one breast at a time on a flat surface.A flat compression paddle will gently be lowered to compress the breast. Compression spreads out the breast tissue and eliminates motion. The compression may be uncomfortable, but shouldn't hurt. Compression usually lasts no more than a few seconds. 2 views of each breast are obtained.

In brief: X-Ray of the breast
A mammogram is a type of breast xray which is intended to detect breast abnormalities including breast cancer.
It is currently recommended as a screening study to be done once a year from age 40. It may have to be done as a diagnostic study based on your breast condition or the findings on a screening study. Please check with your health care provider to see if you need to get a mammogram done.
