In brief: Elavil (amitriptyline)

can be weened over a period of a few weeks at this dose.
Be sure to discuss this with your prescribing doctor. If you have it in tablet form you can break it into quarters and take away one quarter every 5 days. Consider replacing it with Pamelor (nortriptyline) which is less anticholinergic (dry mouth blurred vision etc)

In brief: Wean Amitriptyline

Weaning from Amitriptyline should be doctor-directed; your dose of 25 mg is very low; if your doctor approves, you can take 25 mg alternating with 12.
5 mg for about one-two weeks, then drop to 12.5 mg daily for one-two weeks, then stop it - but ask your doctor

In brief: Slowly, best w/ Dr.

Best to have a Dr guide you.
But if you must wean yourself alone, your dose (daily?) is quite low, so it should be relatively easy - but still go slowly. It has a long half-life (12-24hrs) so you could do a week or two of every other day, then a week or two of 10mg/day, then 10mg every other, then every 3rd day, 4th day, till it feels ok to stop. Again, a Dr's help is good to have. Best!
