What causes all of your gums to be red and swollen apart from gum disease. the only thing my dentist has told me is I have a gum inflammation?

And very rarely, gingival hyperplasia (swollen red gums) is associated with leukemia. But the other problems that were mentioned are much more common and much more likely.

In addition to the answers given above by my very knowledgeable colleagues, don't forget that certain medications can cause generalized gingival hypertrophy.
