Midazolam/versed is a fast acting medication (related to benzodiazepines) that works on the gaba receptors.
Used peri-operatively to produce sedation and retrograde amnesia (helps you forget pain). Because it has a short half-life (1.5 to 3 hours), it is often preferred over diazepam. Side effects can include oxygen desaturation, lowered blood pressure, respiratory depression, and GI distress.
