Hurts when swallow. You probabely have either a viral or bacterial infection of your throat. You should see your doctor have a rapid strep done and if positive you will need antibiotics.
Perhaps: 1. Throat dries out more at night, makes swallowing more painful 2. Acid backwash from stomach contents occurs when you rest flat. 3. No distractions, may types of pain more annoying at night. Try salt water gargles, a humidifier, antacid and be seen if not getting better.
Less saliva. When we sleep, we have reduced salivary flow, so we don't swallow as often and with less saliva, our mouths and throats do become drier. When you have a sore throat due to the start of a cold or such and there is less saliva and less lubrication, when you swallow, the sides of the throat contact and there is less lubrication, so it hurts more.
Sore throat. Garggle with salt and water, tea with honey helps, if it continues see your doctor you may have an infection.

Get checked. For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician ; get a strep throat test ; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for strep throat. Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w aloe vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey ; a small amt of lemon juice helps.

Sore throat. Glands are swollen, need strep & mono test in urgent care clinik.
Sore throat. Follow up with doc today. May have strep so you need to be tested. Or coull be viral, mycoplasma or from post nasal drip. But need to test for strep.
Dr. Can check throat. New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can help decrease pain.
R/O Strep Throat. If you have a significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see your medical provider & get a streph throat test & culture. Saltwater gargles are very helpful. Mix a teaspoon of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle with this several times a day. You can gargle with aloe vera juice a couple of times per day. A mixture of chamomile tea with honey & a small amount of lemon juice is good.
Sore throat. You can first try some Ibuprofen and chloraseptic spray. If the sore throat progresses to the point where just getting in fluids is difficult, an antibiotic might help. If the pain is only on one side, consider seeing a doctor about this.
