Yes in certain cases. Cellulitis does not "cause" strep throat. However, both cellulitis and strep throat can be caused by a bacteria called streptococcus pyogenes (group a strep, aka gas). Gas produces different toxins resulting in symptoms such as fever, malaise, very red skin, and low blood pressure. Both these infections must be treated aggressively, with penicillin remaining the drug of choice.
Yes. Strep can cause cellulitis which is an infection of the superficial layers of skin or mucus membranes. Cellulitis does not cause strep.
I had strep throat, got cellulitis in ankle/foot while I was still treating throat w penicillin. Could strep have caused the cellulitis? Is it likely?
STREP A. Strep A causes both strep throat and foot cellulitis. Likely? -I don't know. Possible? -I guess so.
