In brief: White coat syndrome

There are certainly many causes for these symptoms, but the clue you provide (being in your doctor's office) raises the likelihood of hyperventilation/white coat syndrome - basically anxiety.
Were you feeling apprehensive by seeing your doctor? You wouldn't be the first!

Hmm - saw your note that you're the nurse doing a cortrosyn stimulation test. In that case, it's distinctly unusual. I think you should be carefully looked at. (hx, exam, basic labs, CXR, EKG, urinalysis (r/o kidney disease)), and 24 hour BP monitor if available.

In brief: Anxiet, full bladder

If you're a highly anxious person and have a full bladder, BP should be measured with an appropriately sized cuff, in the seating position, after sitting down for at least 4-5 minutes, preferably NOT with an automated machine.
