In brief: Location

Shingles, an infection with the chickenpox virus (herpes zoster), can affect the upper face and forehead above the eye (v1) or the mid face (v2).
All other shingles infections do not affect the eyes. V1 can cause shedding of cells irritating the eye, or directly attack the front of the eye and its interior which is an emergency needing immediate treatment. V2 can cause irritation but no eye dang.

In brief: HZO

Shingles can involve the first division of the trigeminal nerve (sensory nerve supply to your face, including your eyes) in which case it is called herpes zoster ophthalmicus.
If you have shingles on the tip of nose (hutchinson's sign), upper eyelid, or forehead, you should seek immediate medical attention. Yes it can cause loss of vision.
