I have anal bleeding during/at The end of a bowel movement and the stools are soft. I do have some hemorrhoids but they do not seem sore. Concerned?

In brief: Possibilities...

Blood in stool is a warning sign.
Causes of bleeding may be predictable (e.G rectal trauma, fissure, hemorrhoids with straining), but evaluation is always appropriate. A rule of thumb (but not absolute): black stool means bleeding comes from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anus.

In brief: Possibly

Hemorrhoid bleeding classically is bright red, painless, occurs only with and after bowel movement and is seen mostly on tissue and in toilet.
Unfortunately a rectal cancer can act just like this also. So especially in people 40 or over we would recommend at least a rectal exam if not a sigmoidoscope.
