Can SIRS (systemic inflammatory response syndrome) be an underlying cause of delirium or be otherwise associated with delirium?

Delirium. In critically ill patients, delirium is a frequent occurrence. Investigators have found that the profile of increased inflammatory biomarkers changes in critically ill patients with delirium according to the presence or absence of clinical evidence of inflammation (either infection or systemic inflammatory response syndrome). Thus, there is a reasonable associate between the two.
