Is pulse pressure important at age 22? PP is 40-50. My doctor says dont worry. Being sent to neurologist for weakness also functioning heart murmur.

Pulse pressure. Pulse pressure can be a sign of vascular or valvular issues. It is also a predictor of cardiac disease in older patients. In the absence of hypertension it is not really helpful in the younger population. I agree with your doc. If there is no significant valvular issue I would not worry about it.

MVP. Your echocardiogram is not perfectly normal as it shows mild mitral valve prolapse. All other parameters are normal. MVP is very common and very often causes no problems. Nevertheless I recommend periodic follow-up by a cardiologist as the mvp can worsen, cause atrial arrhythmias and atypical chest discomfort. Very often a click can be heard on stethoscope examination of the heart. Read more...

My doctor says I might have a heart murmur. Will this effect my performance in track?

Needs evaluation. Murmurs occur when blood moves thru the heart. Some are due to blood that flows thru a valve that is narrowed or doesn't open fully. Others happen if blood moves backwards thru a valve that has closed. Unfound holes in the septum are also a cause. Causes range from benign to serious and all need evaluation. A serious murmur can result in poor sports performance or death under extreme circustances. Read more...
Depends. A heart murmur is the sound that blood makes when it flows through the heart. Most heart murmurs are normal sounds ("innocent" murmurs), which occur in about 40% of children and would have no effect on athletics. Murmurs can also be caused by malformations of the heart, which occur in about 1% of children and rarely do impact athletics. Your pediatrician or a cardiologist can let you know. Read more...

How bad is a heart murmur? How important is treatment or going to the doctor for it?

I get a lot of heart thumps, had EKG and showed heart murmur. Doctor didn't prescribe me anything. What can I do to get rid of the thumps?

ECG . Ecg does not show heart murmur. Murmur is sound. Your thumps are likely palpitations caused by benign extra heart beats which don't require treatment, just reassurance. Talk with your dr. And ask for an explanation. Read more...

I have a heart murmur but my doctor told me it was extremely loud and protruding thorough my neck. I've been having palpalations and a fast heart rate?

Heart murmur. Heart murmur radiating to the neck generally indicates narrowing of the aorta. I suspect your doctor scheduled some follow up testing. Palpitations and a racing heart beat could be related if the heart is having difficulty pumping blood through a tight valve. It is important that you review any educational material provided by the doctor and proceed with the upcoming work-up. Read more...
