In brief: Mastitis

Mastitis means that the breast is inflamed.
There can be swelling, redness, tenderness and pain. Non-antibiotic treatment is rest, alternate cold and hot compresses, massage the affected area, breastfeed frequently on the affected side, extra fluid intake, ibuprofen/tylenol for pain and do not quit breastfeeding at this point. If your fever rises or signs , get worse, you may need the antibiotics.
