In brief: Carcinogens

There are chemicals that have a bone fide likelihood of actually giving you cancer.
While any chemical can be made to "cause cancer" in lab animals at ridiculous doses (this is a staple of "environmentalist" junk science), I'm afraid that the warnings against chewing tobacco are real. If this is a step-down to help stop smoking, great. If not, please don't chew. You don't want to die like PhotoGuy
