In brief: If a full tear

It needs surgery and physical therapy.
Depends on your age and underlying baseline health among other things.

Urgent Care

In brief: ACL injury treatment

First aid:Rest the knee, put Ice on it, use an elastic bandage to give gentle Compression to the knee, and Elevate the leg by propping it up above the level of your heart.
Your knee will need to be checked by your doctor There are two ways to treat the injury: 1.Exercises and training, also called rehab. 2.Surgery. You and your doctor can decide if rehab is enough or if surgery is right for you

In brief: Much to consider:

Degree of injury, activity level, future activity goals, age, associated injury/pathology in the knee all factor into the decision making process.
Younger, more active people who desire return to sports/agility activities, those who have recurrent instability, or those with injury of the meniscus or cartilage too should generally have acl reconstruction surgery. See an ortho sports med specialist.
