While this in and of itself should not cause "severe pain" it may cause discomfort. If you are having severe pelvic floor and abdominal spasms, there could be other reasons for this. Before resorting to surgery, you might consider pelvic floor therapy, which can be extremely helpful for pelvic floor spasms.
